Don't Ask me to Forgive you! A Radical Approach to Healing Interpersonal Wounds
Description
We’re taught that forgiveness is good for us and good people forgive. But is this true? When an offending person – a partner, parent, sibling, child, colleague, or friend – shows no remorse regarding acts of infidelity, abuse, addiction, or other interpersonal injuries, many people choke on the concept of forgiveness and find it far too generous. Dr. Spring will propose a radically new, life-affirming alternative that helps hurt parties overcome the corrosive effects of hate and get on with their lives – without forgiving an unrepentant offender.
She will also spell out a practical, interpersonal model of genuine forgiveness that teaches unfaithful partners and other offenders exactly how to earn forgiveness and hurt parties how to foster this process. Case examples and experiential exercises will bring these concepts to life.
Faculty: Janis Abrahms Spring, Ph.D., ABPP, author, How Can I Forgive You? The Courage to Forgive,The Freedom Not To; After the Affair: Healing the Pain and Rebuilding Trust When a Partner Has Been Unfaithful; and Life with Pop: Lessons on Caring for an Aging Parent.
