Hinda Winawer, LCSW
Hinda Winawer, LCSW, is a member of the Ackerman Institute faculty, and Director of the Center for Family Community and Social Justice, in Princeton. In the Institute’s training program, she has taught the Live Clinical Supervision and Externship Training courses as well as weekend workshops. Currently Extern Faculty in the Ackerman/Yang Training Program in Hong Kong, China, Ms. Winawer is also a founding member of the Ackerman Alcohol and Substance Abuse Project.
Previous Ackerman activities include: coordination of the clinic-based Family Preservation Project which developed a family model for court-mandated treatment for child abuse; training for psychiatry residents for the Ackerman-Beth Israel Medical Center project; and development of a training project for psychologists from Nicaragua. Ms. Winawer was adjunct faculty at Rutgers University Graduate School of Social Work where she taught Family Therapy courses, was faculty field liaison, and developed a family systems-oriented workshop for field instructors. She has also taught in Germany, Czechoslovakia, Nicaragua, Switzerland and China.
A member of a several professional societies, Ms. Winawer is on the Board of Directors of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA), chair of the Social Policy Committee and editor of the Social Policy column for the AFTA newsletter. Her publications focus on substance abuse in context, and the family/societal interface such as court-mandated treatment, ethnic culture and the integration of the political dimension into clinical thinking, practice and teaching. She most recently co-authored “School-Based Community Family Therapy for Adolescents at Risk” in Kaslow, F.W. (ed.), Comprehensive Handbook of Psychotherapy, New York: John Wiley & Sons, 2002.
