Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Couples Therapy

DBT is based in the philosophy of dialectics, many principles of which overlap with Systems Theory, and making it a good candidate for work with couples and families.  Several authors (Miller and Rathus, Fruzzetti) have published books and research on DBT applications for couples, and many of standard DBT principles and strategies are applicable to couples with emotionally dysregulated partners and severe conflict.

This talk with review of the principles and strategies most pertinent to DBT couples work (use of Behavioral Analysis to analyze conflicts, teaching and practice of validation, direct expression and using assertiveness skills, etc) and case examples will be provided to illustrate these concepts.
