Forgiveness has been held up as the gold standard of recovery from interpersonal
injuries. But when an offender—a partner, parent, sibling, child, or friend—is
unapologetic, many people find forgiveness far too generous. Dr. Spring will
propose a radically new, life-affirming alternative that helps hurt parties
overcome the corrosive effects of hate and get on with their lives—without forgiving.
She will also propose a bold, interpersonal model of genuine forgiveness which spells
out practical, step-by-step instructions for how the offender and hurt party can work
together to make forgiveness human and attainable. An experiential exercise will bring
these concepts to life.
