Mental health practitioners will be introduced to the basic concepts and practice of psychotherapy
from a family systems perspective. Participants will explore the clinical implications of shifting
from an individual to a family-relational framework.
Topics include:
- engaging the family
- understanding the organization of the family system and its relevance to presenting problems
- formulating a systemic hypothesis
- understanding individual behavior in a family context; the collaborative stance of the family therapist
- the importance of the sociocultural context to family life
An interactive format will provide opportunities for active participation. The workshop
content will be explored through conceptual presentation and discussion, exercises, role play and videotape examples
