Ackerman Partners with the Child and Family Guidance Center to Host Conference

Ackerman partnered with the Child and Family Guidance Center on November 1st to co-present an all-day conference at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport Connecticut. Entitled Strengthening Relationships, Strengthening Communities: A Socially Just Approach to Working with Families, the full day of learning immersed mental health professionals in a collaborative, socially just approach to working with families.

Ackerman President and CEO, and former Child and Family Guidance Center Clinician, Gisselle Acevedo, opened the conference with welcoming remarks.

Catherine Lewis, Ackerman faculty member and Director of Ackerman’s Foster Care and Adoption Project presented An Introduction to Family Therapy and the Ackerman Relational Approach, where participants were invited to think systemically to work more effectively with children, families, and couples presenting with a range of struggles. Silvia Espinal, Ackerman faculty member and Director of Ackerman’s Latino Youth and Family Immigration Project presented Dímelo en Español: Collaborative Therapeutic Conversations with Latino Immigrant Families, which provided a compassionate understanding of the Latino experience and their socio-cultural contexts.
