Statement on Black Lives Matter

We are heartbroken and outraged over the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor at the hands of the police. We hold Ahmaud Arbery in our thoughts, whose life was taken by two White people. We sit with outrage and sadness as we think of the countless other Black people who have lost their lives due to systemic racism. We hold the victims, their families and all those impacted by the senseless acts of bigotry in our hearts. As therapists, we are ready to offer care and support to those in grief and distress over these tragedies.

Committed to social justice, we stand in solidarity with the Black community at the Ackerman Institute and the world over. As family therapists, our ethics demand that we care about all people, all families, and act towards social justice. We must demand that Black lives matter and take action, especially those of us who sit with White privilege. We simply cannot be silent.⠀
