Organization Overview:

The Ackerman Institute for the Family was founded in 1960, and is one of the premier institutions for family therapy treatment, and one of the most highly regarded training facilities for family therapists in the United States. The Institute serves a diverse population of families at all stages of family life by offering a variety of programs that address a broad range of issues and concerns. The faculty at the Institute have achieved national prominence and earned national awards for the development of innovative approaches to family therapy and professional training.

The Ackerman Institute’s Gender and Family Project’s (GFP) mission is to empower youth, families, and communities by providing gender affirmative services, training, and research. Founded in 2010, GFP promotes gender inclusivity as a form of social justice in all the systems involved in the life of the family.

Position Summary:

This position of Clinic Therapist, Part-Time, GFP will be reporting to Gender & Family Project Director, with support from the Clinical Director. Clinic Therapists are responsible for providing therapeutic services to families through the Ackerman Institute for the Family’s New York State Office of Mental Health, Article 31 Clinic. In addition to skills in Family Therapy, the qualified candidate will be fluent in discussing race, gender identity and other areas of marginalization. The Clinic Therapist is also expected to work collaboratively, and provide clear, clinical documentation in a timely manner.

Essential Job Functions:

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provide weekly couple and family therapy for the Institute. Case load may also contain individual cases of family members who are already receiving family services in the clinic.
  • Provide minimum of 4 session per week and up to 20 session a week.
  • Maintain up-to-date, timely, electronic chart records that include treatment plans and session notes.
  • Must be available for clinical supervision for 2 hours a month, held bi-weekly.
  • Must be able to conduct tele-therapy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a current and valid license to practice mental health independently in the state of New York such as LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, or licensed psychologist.
  • 2+ years of clinical experience in Family Therapy.
  • Must have experience working with children, as well as their family members, from overburdened NYC school and community agency partners.
  • Must be well versed in issues related to race, gender identity and other areas of marginalization.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in working with LGBTQ+ youths.
  • Bilingual required, in English/Spanish.
  • Knowledge and application of the Ackerman Relational Approach and/or Family Therapy theories.
  • Experience in social service setting with working knowledge of case management systems and planning techniques is preferred.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Work Environment:

  • This position is currently remote due to Covid-19. When the Institute re-opens (TBD), this position will be based out of The Ackerman Institute’s New York, NY location.
  • This position will require you to dedicate up to 20 hours per week.

Compensation:

  • $50.00 per hour.
