The Ackerman Institute for the Family was founded in 1960, and is one of the premier institutions for family therapy treatment, and one of the most highly regarded training facilities for family therapists in the United States. The Institute serves a diverse population of families at all stages of family life by offering a variety of programs that address a broad range of issues and concerns. The faculty at the Institute have achieved national prominence and earned national awards for the development of innovative approaches to family therapy and professional training.

Position Summary:

The Ackerman Institute for the Family is seeking a creative, strategic thinker and community-builder to join the team and make an immediate impact. The Director of Community and International Training is responsible for fostering and developing relationships with organizations and thought leaders in the field of family therapy with the goal of training mental health professionals in best practices of working with children, couples and families.  The Director is responsible for developing training contracts with agencies locally, nationally and internationally, for in-person and online workshops, featuring Ackerman faculty sharing core principles of practice from the Ackerman Relational Approach (ARA). The Director will curate the online and in-person workshop series, where thought leaders both within and outside of the Ackerman community present their therapeutic work in specialized areas in the field of systemic thinking and family therapy.  The Director is responsible for a workshop schedule that includes presenters who represent diverse perspectives and voices and who hold a foundational commitment to practicing socially just, anti-racist therapy.

The Director of Community and International Training will work in conjunction with Ackerman Institute goals, priorities and strategies for continuing and developing the organization. Working cross-departmentally, the Director will work collaboratively with the President & CEO, the Director of Training and the training department team and members of the faculty. Essential Job Functions:

Community Training:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with social service agencies and mental health clinics throughout the community and surrounding states.
  • Respond to requests for trainings from agencies throughout the tri-state area.
  • Schedule conversations to discuss training needs of staff (ie. One-time workshop vs. a series of consultations).
  • Negotiate training rate.
  • Write proposal/contract for training contract.
  • Secure trainers, coordinate training.
  • Dates and times, submit PO and invoices.
  • Conduct 1-2 trainings per month in community (in person or online).
  • Manage/coordinate training contracts where CEU credits are offered as part of the training contract.
  • Follow-up with requests from agencies throughout the country for training in the Ackerman Relational Approach.
  • Manage on-going contracts with agencies (including scheduling of trainings, invoicing, reporting).
  • Maintain database of trainings completed in the community, including number of participants, names of trainers, amount received in contract, amount paid to trainers.

International Training:

  • Plan and schedule workshop intensives with international agencies with whom Ackerman has long-standing relationships (Aigle in Buenos Aires and Instituto Chileno de Terapia in Santiago, Chile).
  • Coordinate Ackerman faculty to train in South America, two times per year (October/November and April/May).
  • Develop and facilitate new relationships with international agencies to encourage cross agency collaboration and training.
  • Coordinate speakers for International Conversations.
  • Coordinate/communicate with administrative team regarding room reservation, room set-up, technology needs, refreshments, payment (if applicable) for all international training activities.

Friday Workshop Series:

  • Research and reach out to leaders in the field of mental health and family therapy with invitations to present in the Friday workshop series, both in person and for online workshops.
  • Coordinate a calendar of trainings that is diverse and inclusive regarding content and topic area.
  • Secure presenters, request workshop material needed for CEUs and marketing
  • Send thank you emails with evaluations of workshops.
  • Assist in Friday workshop set-up and customer care (participant requests and complaints day of workshop); Introduction of presenters.
  • For online presentations – schedule and conduct practice session prior to workshop
  • Facilitate online workshop, managing the chat, Q&A, and any technical challenges during the presentation.
  • Supervise Coordinator of Training in running of the workshop series and the administrative tasks: CEU management and CEU record keeping for the Institute.
  • Troubleshoot complaints, questions, inquiries regarding the Friday workshop series (ie. Requests for refunds, complaints regarding content, space).

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in MSW, LMFT, or other related mental health required.

  • This position is three days (21 hours) a week.

The Ackerman Institute for the Family offers competitive compensation based on experience.
