Organization Overview:

The Ackerman Institute for the Family was founded in 1960, and is one of the premier institutions for family therapy treatment, and one of the most highly regarded training facilities for family therapists in the United States. The Institute serves a diverse population of families at all stages of family life by offering a variety of programs that address a broad range of issues and concerns. The faculty at the Institute have achieved national prominence and earned national awards for the development of innovative approaches to family therapy and professional training.

Position Summary:

The primary goal of the Social Work and Diversity Program (SWD) is to increase the number of family systems trained therapists of color. The SWD focuses on training six Second-Year MSW students every year, who are capable of providing effective couple and family therapy services to racially diverse families. In addition to becoming skilled clinicians, trainees are taught concomitantly to do program development and community organization to address the complexity of issues faced by families, especially low-income families of color. By extension, the program aims to enhance community based social service agencies, particularly in New York area’s communities of color, through expanding the number of systems trained therapists of color available for leadership positions and practice. This supervisor position is a two-year commitment.

Essential Job Functions:

Primary responsibilities include:

  • This is a two-year, 14hr per-week position, therefore candidates must be prepared to commit to this structure.
  • Prepare a syllabus with Program Director.
  • Provide ongoing evaluations of student’s progress and clinical growth.
  • Participate in program and admissions activities, including interviews with student candidates.
  • Maintain communication and correspondence with three universities:  NYU Silver, Columbia and Hunter Silberman School of Social Work.
  • Write Educational Plans, Mid-Year and Final Evaluations for 3 students.
  • Maintain communication and correspondence with 3 community placement sites.
  • Provide weekly group supervision for 6 second-year social work students (Mondays)
  • Provide live supervision (Monday and Thursday evenings)
  • Provide individual supervision bi- monthly for 3 students.
  • Weekly one-hour meeting with Program Director.
  • Provide communication with Foundation’s instructors as needed.
  • Assist in end of the year student presentations.
  • Ensure interns are maintaining up-to-date, timely electronic chart records and participate in utilization reviews.
  • Participation in bi-monthly faculty meetings.
  • Executing other duties as assigned by the Director of Training.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work.
  • Must hold LCSW licensure in New York State.
  • Social Work & Diversity Program graduate preferred.
  • SIFI certified or in process of becoming certified by Fall 2022 semester.
  • Supervision experience preferred but not required.
  • Can-do positive attitude with ability to interact with diverse people at all levels.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to details.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Systems (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Zoom.

Work Environment:

  • This position will be hybrid, with a requirement to be on-site one-day per-week

Compensation:

  • This position will be offered a salary of $12,000.00 for a contract from September 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.
