This 3-hour virtual training introduces mental health professionals and caregivers to the process of identifying play themes in Digital Play Therapy. Play themes provide a window into children’s emotional worlds and developmental needs, and understanding them is critical for therapeutic assessment and intervention.
Participants will explore how digital play can reveal traditional therapeutic play themes, examine current research on children’s digital play experiences, and practice applying frameworks that support observation, interpretation, and integration of play themes into clinical practice. The training emphasizes both clinical application and parent-friendly strategies for recognizing and responding to themes that emerge in digital play.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define play themes in the context of play therapy.
- Recognize how digital play environments reflect traditional therapeutic play themes.
- Use the RITEC-8 framework to connect digital play to aspects of well-being.
- Observe digital play behaviors for theme identification.
- Integrate play themes into treatment planning and therapeutic interventions.
Who Should Attend:
This workshop is for mental health professionals, caregivers, and educators who want to understand children’s digital play, recognize emerging play themes, and apply these insights to support emotional development and therapeutic growth.
