Organization Overview:
The Ackerman Institute for the Family was founded in 1960 and is one of the premier institutions for family therapy treatment, and one of the most highly regarded training facilities for family therapists in the United States. Position Summary:
Clinic Therapists, Fee-for-Service provide psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, and families through the Ackerman Institute for the Family’s New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) Article 31 Clinic. The role is a productivity-based clinical position in which therapists are compensated per completed therapy session, with required clinical documentation, including but not limited to, intake assessment, progress notes, treatment planning, and crisis management, are incorporated into the per-session rate.
Clinic Therapists are responsible for delivering clinically appropriate care, maintaining a consistent caseload, completing all required documentation in the electronic health record, and participating in required supervision and administrative activities as defined by licensure, agency policy, and program or grant requirements. This role operates within a regulated healthcare environment and requires adherence to OMH, Medicaid, and Ackerman Institute clinical, documentation, privacy, and quality standards.
Essential Job Functions:
Primary responsibilities include:
- Provide weekly couple and family therapy services through the Institute’s OMH-licensed Article 31 Clinic. Caseloads may also include individual therapy for family members currently engaged in family therapy.
- Maintain a minimum of ten (10) completed sessions per week. Therapists are expected to proactively schedule above this minimum to account for client no-shows and cancellations and ensure consistent productivity.
- Must be available to work three evenings a week (4pm-9pm) of their choice in person and/or remote OR two evenings a week (4pm-9pm) in-person and/or remote and at least 4 hours on Saturday between the hours of 9am-5pm
- Complete and maintain up-to-date, timely, and accurate electronic chart records in Welligent, the Institute’s electronic health record (EHR) system. Required documentation includes, but is not limited to, intake assessments, treatment plans, session notes, crisis management, and discharge summaries.
- Documentation must meet all agency policies and payer requirements, and comply with standards established by OMH, OMIG, Medicaid, and other regulatory bodies.
- Participate in clinical supervision up to twice monthly (1 hour per session), as required by agency policy and professional development standards and will be paid at the non-billable rate.
- Participate in monthly group supervision with Clinical Director and will be paid at the non-billable rate for attendance.
- Conduct teletherapy sessions as needed. Therapists must have access to a private, professional, and confidential space to deliver remote care and must adhere to all agency policies and procedures, as well as OMH, OMIG, and HIPAA requirements for telehealth service delivery.
- Demonstrate sufficient technological proficiency to navigate the EHR system, use secure video conferencing platforms, and comply with all documentation, privacy, and telehealth-related procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the clinic.
Qualifications
- Must hold a current and valid license to practice mental health independently in the state of New York such as LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, or licensed psychologist.
- Must be well-versed in issues related to race, gender identity, and other areas of marginalization.
- Bilingual preferred, but not required, in English/Spanish.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Work Environment:
- This position is hybrid, with a combination of in-person and telehealth service delivery, as defined by clinic policy and client needs.
- Availability for a minimum of one evening per week is required, with additional evening and/or weekend hours strongly preferred to support client access and meet productivity goals.
- Flexibility in scheduling is essential to maintain consistent caseloads, meet productivity expectations, and ensure timely access to care outside standard business hours.
Compensation:
Ackerman Institute for the Family compensates Clinic Therapists, Fee-for-Service using a two-rate structure designed to ensure compliance with New York labor law and OMH requirements.
Clinical Services
- Therapists are paid $55.00 per completed therapy session. The per-session rate is an inclusive rate intended to compensate for both direct clinical services and required clinical documentation associated with the session, including but not limited to session notes, treatment plans, plan reviews, and any clinically indicated safety or crisis planning.
Administrative, Supervision, and Training Time
- Required non-billable work — including supervision when required by licensure, billing, or agency policy, required trainings, required meetings, and approved project-based administrative activities (if applicable)— is compensated at the non-billable administrative rate of $35.00 per hour.
- Independently licensed clinicians who maintain a minimum caseload of ten (10) completed sessions per week are eligible for up to two (2) hours of paid supervision per month at the non-billable rate
- Optional or non-required trainings or activities are not compensated.
Authorization and Documentation of Time
- All clinical sessions and non-billable administrative time must be authorized, documented in Welligent using designated codes, and submitted through the Payment Request Form in accordance with agency policy. Only authorized and properly documented services are eligible for payment.
- Payment requests must be submitted no later than thirty (30) days from the date of service to remain eligible for payment.
