First Issue of Ackerman’s NewsletterÂ

Dear Ackerman Community,
It’s an honor to greet you in this Premiere edition of our newsletter, Ackerman in Action. As we enter our 65th year, the Ackerman Institute for the Family continues to lead the field in centering relationships as the foundation for healing and change. That legacy grounds us—and it also propels us forward.
We’ve entered a time of expansion and recommitment. As we deepen our focus on these core pillars, we’re also holding firmly to our values—especially our dedication to social justice, trans and LGBTQ+ affirming care, and culturally attuned work with the Latinx community. In the face of a shifting political climate, we are proudly expanding our live clinical offerings, with new tracks in Gender and Family, Spanish-speaking services, and Substance Use and the Family—all grounded in our relational model.
Our Continuing Education Program is also growing in both reach and depth. We’re building a more robust and dynamic workshop series—a space to highlight bold ideas and welcome new voices. This spring, we’re launching a three-part substance use lecture series, just one of many steps we’re taking to meet the evolving needs of our communities.
International engagement is on the rise. We’re excited to welcome old and new connections with colleagues in Argentina and Chile, and we’re in active conversations with other global partners who share our commitment to family systems thinking.
Our clinic has become a vital training ground—not only for our own trainees and graduates, but also for clinicians from other programs eager to deepen their relational work. Our training programs continue to evolve, offering flexible certificates and new entry points that reflect the diverse needs and commitments of today’s behavioral health professionals.
It’s a very exciting moment for Ackerman. As we celebrate 65 years of impact, we’re honoring our past while building a vibrant and sustainable future. We refuse to be the best-kept secret in New York! With new technologies, new platforms, and a growing national and international presence, we’re committed to carrying the promise of relational work into the next 65 years—and beyond.
What’s Next at Ackerman
In the coming months, you’ll hear more from us—spotlights on our clinical programs, profiles of our faculty and trainees, and insights into how family therapy is evolving in response to today’s challenges. Whether you’re a long-time supporter, a former student, or someone just discovering Ackerman, we invite you to stay connected, join a workshop, refer a family, or simply spread the word: Family matters, and we’re here to lead the way.
It’s the people, working together that makes Ackerman tick… thank you to everyone on the team and all our supporters
With appreciation,
