Gap Launches Pride Campaign Featuring Gender & Family Project

Written by Ackerman Institute. Posted in In the Press, News Blog

Gap xGFP Pride 2019

We are thrilled to announce that Gap has launched a nationwide media campaign in partnership with Gender & Family Project Advisory Council member, Jodie Patterson. Jodie and her chosen family are featured alongside GFP Director, Jean Malpas in a creative campaign centered on gender diversity and family acceptance. The 2019 partnership comes ahead of the 50-year mark of the 1969 Stonewall riots, a pivotal moment in the movement for LGBTQIA+ equality.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Gap and the Patterson family for shining a light on trans youths and family acceptance.

When I think about this moment we are in, I see how important it is to centralize all identities. To ask ourselves to see those whom we have never seen before. In particular those who have been marginalized. My family is complex and layered. We come from all over the world, speak over 5 languages, pray in unique ways, identify across the spectrum, love as we see fit. I am so proud of GAP for seeing us and centralizing us. In the midst of all this decisiveness, some decide to come together and simply say YES. —Jodie Patterson

You can see Jean, Jodie, and her family of choice featured on Gap’s website, social media, YouTube channel, and in window displays across the country.
