Helping Couples Navigate Illness and Disability
Serious illness and disability can severely strain couple relationships. In this workshop, Rolland’s Family Systems-Illness model will provide a guiding framework for participants to help couples navigate the changing landscape in the experience of illness over time. This resilience-oriented practice approach integrates the psychosocial demands of various types and phases of illness with family and individual lifecycle challenges, multigenerational legacies, and beliefs/meaning-making. Guidelines are offered to help couples view the illness experience as “our challenge,” and seize opportunities for relational healing and growth.
