Parent Workshop | Siblings of Children with Special Needs

The child with special needs often dominates the parents’ attention, time, and resources. Sibling reactions can be quite varied and are often troubling for parents. In this workshop, we will explore the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that might enhance or diminish the sibling’s personal growth and discuss ways for the family to navigate through the struggles.

Siblings of children with ADHD, autism and other developmental disabilities often feel that it’s not fair that their parents’ devote more time, attention and resources to their brother or sister.  Sibling reactions can be quite varied and are often troubling for parents. They may feel guilty for neglecting or expecting too much from their typically developing child.  In this workshop, participants will discuss sibling reactions and parenting strategies to meet the needs of each child.
