For the Hyper-Neat, a Special Strain Comes With the Season

“For the Hyper-Neat, a Special Strain Comes With the Season”

Neatnik, clean freak, dust-bunny didact — whatever your level of housecleaning compulsion, holiday entertaining can be a particular strain. Christmas trees drop needles, Hanukkah candles drip, gift wrappings pile up.

NY Times writer, Joyce Wadler, interviewed Lois Braverman, president of the Ackerman Institute to discuss how the “hyper-neat” overcome the strain of the holidays. Ms. Braverman “does not care for the term “neat freak” — she prefers “hyper-neat.” Some people simply have a keener visual sense than others, she says; they see crumbs on the counter that others may not. Such discrepancies between partners are not uncommon — she recalls a husband who was acutely sensitive.”
