Adolescent substance use can trouble, confuse, and deeply worry clinicians and caregivers. The intersection of the complex developmental period of the teenage years with risky drug and alcohol use represents a pivotal moment for families and for therapy. In this workshop, we will provide attendees with a meaningful understanding of a relational treatment approach to substance use problems, including specific techniques to engage caregivers in treatment and promote behavior change for all family members.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will learn techniques for engaging Caregivers in Youth SUD treatment within the Ackerman Relational Approach
- Participants will describe the benefits of family engagement in youth treatment
- Participants will explore family skills training as a way to change behavior within the Ackerman Relational Approach
