This workshop will teach how to adapt cognitive behavior therapy to the treatment of couples. Therapists will learn how to conceptualize common relationship difficulties in the context of the cognitive model and how to navigate the complex interaction of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that transpire within romantic partnerships. Through experiential exercises, roleplays, and case examples, this workshop will teach evidence-based strategies to help couples communicate effectively, solve problems, and find common ground.

- Discuss four common problem areas in relationships
- Explain how to create a relationship vision for a couple
- Identify signs of love and caring in their day to day interactions
- Analyze how couples’ misinterpretations fuel anger and resentment
- Describe types of problems in communication
- List principles of effective communication
- Identify problems in negotiation
