Frank Wells

Frank Wells, LCSW, is a teaching faculty member at the Ackerman Institute. A graduate of New York University School of Social Work, Frank has previously worked as a therapist in child welfare and outpatient mental health settings.

He served for over a decade as senior family therapist and later Family Program Director at the Freedom Institute outpatient substance treatment program in Midtown Manhattan where, in addition to his family and couples work, he helped design and facilitate multi-family, spouse/partner, and parent groups for families with members struggling with substance use. He has conducted professional trainings regarding the approaches and functions of family therapy within substance use treatment. Frank places great value in introducing relational work into community mental health and organizational structures. His practice and teaching are informed by an anti-racist, LGBTQ-affirming, feminist stance. Frank also maintains a private practice in New York City seeing individuals, couples and families.
